The Challenge
Gunung Mulu National Park in Borneo is a remote UNESCO World Heritage site home to some of the planet’s largest cave systems. Park management and scientists needed a reliable way to observe the millions of bats dwelling deep within the caves without disturbing their natural habitat. Operating in total darkness, extreme humidity, and high temperatures required equipment that could withstand an incredibly hostile environment.
The Solution
To achieve this unprecedented visibility, the park deployed an intelligence-first video security solution using highly ruggedized moving cameras. Installed in the world’s largest cave passage and connected via a 3.8-kilometer fiber optic line, the system allows operators and visitors to remotely control the cameras from an all-weather observatory. The robust engineering ensures flawless operation despite the oppressive heat, constant moisture, and lack of ambient light.
